New and Better Bypass!

We have a new censorship bypassing method, different than the one explained in this support article. This new method is supported on all Operating Systems (Windows, Android, iOS, MacOS, Linux). Please reach out to our team to get this bypass (and setup instructions) through Live Chat or Email.

Legacy (Stunnel) Bypass

To use our special bypass servers, you first need to install OpenVPN Connect. If you do not already have OpenVPN Connect installed, please see our support article on how to install it. Once you have the application installed, the next step is to download the Stunnel application from their website (or website, using the handy buttons below). The Stunnel application is used to encrypt OpenVPN traffic, making it more difficult for anyone to intercept or view your internet traffic (like the Great Firewall of China).

To download Stunnel, follow the instructions below and select the version that is compatible with your Operating System.

Windows

The Stunnel website is often blocked or heavily limited in mainland China, and other countries with limited/restricted internet access. If you need help finding an alternative way of downloading Stunnel, our support team is happy to help! Use the live chat feature or email us at [email protected]!

  1. First, download and install the OpenVPN Connect app from the official website OpenVPN is a widely trusted open-source VPN client supported by various operating systems.

  2. After installation, you will need to start the Stunnel GUI by searching for it in the search bar and clicking the Stunnel GUI Start application.

  3. Once you have the Stunnel GUI started, you need to open it so we can edit its configuration. Click "Edit Configuration". A text window will appear.

  4. With the text window open (the Stunnel configuration) remove any existing content and replace it with the configuration below. This specific configuration is meant for China, and if you are in need of another configuration, you are always welcome to reach out to our support team.

    output = stunnel.log
    client = yes

    [openvpn]
    sni = www.google.com.hk
    accept = 127.0.0.1:1194
    connect = 172.104.121.198:443

  5. Click back on the Stunnel GUI icon, and click "Reload Configuration".

  6. Now you are all set to connect to the AstroVPN Bypass Server (in this case, bypassing the Great Firewall of China). It is worth noting that our bypass works in many countries, not limited to China.

    If you do not have the Bypass OpenVPN file, please reach out to our support team and they will be able to provide you further assistance! The file is needed for the bypass to work! To ensure it stays safe, we do not offer a direct public download.

If you have any additional questions or need further assistance with setting up the AstroVPN Bypass, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team. We're here, and happy to help! We'd also really appreciate your feedback on this article so we can ensure it's guiding people in the proper direction.

    • Disable "Override DNS Settings"

  7. Click "Routing" at the top and then enter the following settings.

    • Enable "Bypass VPN for Local Network"

    • Enable "Block IPv6"

    • Enable "Use Default Route"

  8. Next click "Authentication/Encryption" and enter the following setting (and leave the rest as default).

    • Click "Encryption Ciphers" and type "AES-256-GCM" (you will have to type this manually)

  9. Then click "Advanced" and enter the following settings.

    • Enable "Custom Options" and enter "route 172.104.121.198 255.255.255.255 net_gateway"

  10. Open SSLSocks and then start the tunnel. You must start the tunnel before you can connect to the OpenVPN server (the next step).
